thankyoumom My 2 little boys never ceased to amaze me while they are growing up. And every time they do, I always smile and tell myself, we did a good job raising them. We know we still have a long way to go as they are still in their elementary years, but I believe building a strong foundation of kindness at their early age will make them good men someday. One value that I can proudly say my kids have is saying “Thank You”. I have a short story to tell, just a simple incident that pointed me to a realization.

I usually sleep between 7 to 8 PM as I have to wake up extra early for an early morning shift. My kids slept with me in my room since hubby is in Davao for their office’s expansion. My kids who usually sleeps at 9PM also became early sleeper since I let them just lay beside me when I am ready to hit the sack. Amidst of our goodnight sleep in our cold room, I woke up with uneasiness! Just then I realized electricity was out! Kuya NJ began switching positions which actually annoyed me. I scolded him in my low voice telling him to stay still as the he is disturbing my sleep and his brother’s. I know from the sound of his voice he is uncomfortable…damn! I hate brownouts at night! He said “Mom I can’t go back to sleep! It’s so hot!” … I thought he was just being a brat at this holy hour! (it was still 10 actually). I stood up and took something to fan both of them. I closed my eyes as I fanned them…It was not long until he is asleep again. Unfortunately I can’t bring myself to sleep because I worry that if I stop, the discomfort of the hot temperature inside our room due to brownout might distract their sleep. Arrghh! I had to wait until the electricity was back before I continued dozing off..that’s after more than an hour!

I woke up around 4 AM already that I had to rush to shower and change as fast as I could as I need to be at work on or before 5AM! While I was changing, Kuya NJ woke up, looked at me and said..“Thank you sa pagpaypay gabii Mom ha”…..I didn’t expect that! I was totally caught off-guard! I never thought he’d be grateful for what I did. I smiled and said “you’re welcome nak, you go back to sleep, it’s still very early”. I was ashamed of myself for thinking he was just being a brat when he complained…A little guilty for scolding him…He did not go back to sleep and waited for me to finish changing. He usually make it a point to wake up early to kiss me goodbye before I go to work and tells me to take care. Thank God for giving me thoughtful and sweet kids.
